Dr. Sy was inspired to become a dentist after meeting Dr. Joel Strom, a former California Dental Board president and USC Ethics instructor. Unaware of his accolades at first, she quickly saw his expertise, loyal patient base, and deep ethical commitment. His patient-first approach and word-of-mouth success deeply impressed her. Dr. Sy later worked as a dental assistant and front office manager before attending his alma mater, the University of the Pacific. This experience shaped her goal: to build a dental practice where patients feel valued, receive personalized care, and truly belong.

Dr. Sy grew up in California after her parents immigrated from the Philippines—they are now living the dream by residing in Hawaii! She is happily married to her college sweetheart, Michael, and you’ll often find them cooking, trying out new restaurants, and doing Olympic weightlifting to stay strong, mobile, and mentally sharp.

Story Time: “My grandfather was a fisherman in the Philippines. When my parents came to California, my father got a small fishing boat and would take us out regularly to fish. As a child, I once caught a small nursing shark! We also would go out to catch lobsters in the evening, using a concoction of chicken wings, cat food, and WD40 to bait them.”
